In home hospice care
What is hospice care?
Pet hospice care focuses on maximizing a pet's quality of life during a terminal or life-limiting illness by managing pain and symptoms, providing emotional support, and helping with end-of-life decisions. It involves veterinary guidance for comfort, pain management with medication, and support for caregivers to create a calm, loving environment at home. The goal is to ensure the pet's final days or weeks are as peaceful and pain free as possible, allowing for a dignified and gentle goodbye.
What is involved in an in home hospice appointment?
During the consultation I will discuss with you in detail how your pet is doing day to day, and provide tools to help support you and your pet through their last days. These may include medical management to help with pain, anxiety and nausea. It may also involve dietary changes, changes you could make around the home to aid your pets mobility, and where appropriate look into additional therapies such as physiotherapy or acupuncture.
The consultations are designed to offer a free space to listen to your concerns in a caring and non judgmental manner and to help support you, the caregiver through the transition of end of life care through to making the decision to say goodbye to your beloved pet. These clinics are always done in person within your home. So no stressful car journeys or busy vet clinic appointments. Follow up in home appointments can also be scheduled to provide you with continued caring support as you navigate end of life care for your pet.
During the initial appointment I will also discuss what you would like your pets final visit to look like, I will offer advice and support in the planning so there are no difficult decisions to be made on the day as all decisions will be pre planned.
Each visit usually last 1- 1.5 hours and where possible it is good to have all caregivers there.
